Our client is an NGO active in the education field, funded in 2019 and now working with 284 state schools across 37 counties and Bucharest.Their vision is to change the purpose and practice of schools, because every child in every school matters. Committed to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and enriching environment for all children, their goal is to ensure that every child receives the quality education they deserve. To achieve this, they are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Business Development Executive to join their team and help expand their educational solutions and market presence, thereby making a significant impact on the lives of children and their communities.
About the role
The Director of Fundraising is a critical senior leadership position for our client, focuse on enhancing the organisation's fundraising capacity and visibility among key external audiences. This role is responsible for developing and executing the fundraising strategy, leading the fundraising team, and ensuring alignment between the organisation’s strategic and operational activities. The Director will also represent the organisation at various events, promoting company's mission and securing support.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic planning for the fundraising department in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team.
- Develop long-term and annual plans to achieve strategic fundraising goals.
- Prepare and manage the fundraising budget, align operational plans with the organisation’s strategic objectives, and ensure compliance with relevant laws and best practices. Regularly report on performance and adapt strategies as needed.
- Craft and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy to ensure sustainable income growth. Identify and develop new fundraising initiatives and income streams.
- Foster and maintain relationships with key donors, stakeholders, and partners. Represent the company at networking events and serve as an ambassador to enhance the organisation's profile.
- Provide inspirational leadership and direction to the fundraising team. Promote a culture of high performance, continuous improvement, and alignment with the organisation’s values.
- Manage recruitment, training, and professional development of the fundraising staff.
- Manage and oversee key organisational projects within the fundraising scope, ensuring they align with our client’s goals.
- Develop strategies for donor engagement, manage high net worth donor relationships, and enhance donor satisfaction through effective communication and stewardship.
- Develop and take the lead in identifying, attracting and engaging new donors in line with the strategic objectives.
- Monitor and report on fundraising activities to ensure they meet target income levels and comply with governance standards.
- Take on additional responsibilities as needed to support the overarching the goals. This position requires a dynamic leader capable of driving significant fundraising efforts, managing complex stakeholder relationships, and guiding a team towards achieving ambitious targets.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or a related field. (Master's degree is preferred)
- Professional certifications in fundraising are a plus. e.g. Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE)
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising, development, or a related field, with at least 3-5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful fundraising strategies and campaigns.
- Extensive experience with major gift fundraising, grant writing, corporate sponsorships, and donor relations.
- Strong understanding of donor databases and fundraising software.
- Demonstrated experience in managing and mentoring a team of fundraising professionals.
- Familiarity with the education sector and nonprofit organisations, particularly within Romania, is highly desirable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling fundraising messages and proposals.
- Strong networking skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with key donors, stakeholders, and partners.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet fundraising targets and deadlines.
- Experience in organising and managing fundraising events.
